Ron Culley built a successful career in economic development culminating in six years as Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise Glasgow. In 2006, he was appointed as Chief Executive of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), Scotland’s largest regional transport authority, which is responsible for developing the regional transport strategy and inter alia, for running the Glasgow Subway system, the third oldest in the world.
Prior to his appointment as a Member of the British Transport Police Authority in June 2008, Ron served for many years as a Member of the Police Advisory Board for Scotland and was a Governor at the Scottish Police Training College at Tulliallan. Ron is also a long-standing Board Member of the Wise Group, an organisation dedicated to training and finding jobs for those who are unemployed.
Ron served on the BTPA Professional Standards and the Human Resources and Remuneration committees. He also took an interest in the BTP services in the North-west of England and in Counter Terrorism. He has a qualification in counter-terrorism from St Andrews University.
Ron retired from BTPA membership on 26 March 2010.
