Cardiff CID appeal broadcast live on Crimewatch Roadshow

An appeal to track down a thief who conned a Cardiff company out of £110,000 worth of filming equipment was broadcast live on BBC1’s Crimewatch Roadshow programme yesterday (Thursday 11 June).

Cardiff-based Detective Inspector Mark Cleland appeared on the show to appeal for the public’s help to find the cocky conman who posed as a Channel 4 employee to dupe the small Cardiff firm on Friday 20 March.

Interviewed live in Penarth, DI Cleland said: “This incident relates to the theft of high-end video camera equipment after the suspect went to the back of Cardiff Railway Station to meet an employee from the company.

“They had contacted each other by email and mobile phone and the accounts are untraceable. The equipment was handed over and the suspect paid a cash deposit of £1,000.

“He then jumped into a silver people carrier vehicle and has never been seen since.”

Crimewatch Roadshow studio presenter Sophie Raworth said that while DI Cleland’s appeal was being broadcast, the show had taken a call from a member of the public offering a possible identity for the conman.

DI Cleland and his team are currently following up that lead.

Operation Chisel update – 11 charged

A total of 11 offenders have now been charged or are awaiting charges following phase two of Operation Chisel which targeted thugs involved in a serious football-related disturbance at Telford railway station.

The charges include affray, causing fear or provocation of violence and behaviour likely to cause harassment alarm or distress. All offenders convicted at court so far have received football banning orders, helping to contribute to WW area targets for football-related incidents.

During Operation Chisel, officers targeted a number of offenders who were captured on CCTV during a fight at Telford railway station at about 6pm on Saturday 11 April.

The incident was also witnessed by a number of passengers and railway staff.

Inspector Stuart Middlemas said: “These arrests send out a positive message to all that football-related disorder on the railway network will not be tolerated.”

Ordering BTP merchandise and giveaways for NPTs

BTP-branded merchandise and promotional giveaways should be ordered by NPTs directly from approved suppliers via the order forms on the Intranet.  These items are not kept in stock by the Media and Marketing Department and therefore it is imperative that they are ordered by NPTs well in advance of an engagement event.

The merchandise that can be ordered includes BTP memory sticks, sticky notes, pens, pencils, personal alarms, drink bottles and jelly beans. These items can be used for community engagement events, days of action, school visits, campaigns and awareness days, for example.

To order the materials:

1.      Select the products you want to order from the lists on the Intranet

2.      Make sure you have secured funding from your department head / line manager

3.      Submit a white form to Finance, who will generate a purchase order number

4.      Download the appropriate order form(s) and complete, ensuring these include the purchase order number

5.      Send the order to the supplier using the details listed on the bottom of each form.

Please allow an appropriate length of time for delivery as this can sometimes take up to six weeks.

Please click here for the link or see the Media and Marketing pages on the Intranet for the merchandise lists and order forms.
