Universal CCTV Software
Launch
The Force
is launching a new CCTV viewing application called SiraView, that will be
available across all police Areas (initially on a limited number of
networked computers).
SiraView is
a universal CCTV player that will enable viewing of a variety of different
digital CCTV systems outputs, without other software having to be
installed. The application is aimed at front line officers
investigating CCTV images.
One of the
main advantages of the application is that it allows the user to use the
same front end piece of software regardless of which CCTV format they want
to view. This should enable officers to build up a familiarity with the
application as they are seeing the same software each time rather than
having to become familiar with the many different CCTV players.
The
software will be supported by the ‘Technology Service Desk’ who will also
hold a list of locations where SiraView has been deployed. To find out
where your nearest terminal is or to make a technical support enquiry
contact the Service Desk.
Before
using the software it is advised that you complete the short training
package for SiraView which can be found on the Force intranet Crime
Reduction Department’s CCTV web page. See link
below.
http://a00-cms/btpintranet/Default.aspx?page=8568
There are
many CCTV formats that SiraView cannot play, but as these formats are
identified they can be built in to the next release of the software.
Therefore, anyone coming across a format that won’t play should let the
Service Desk know so that it can be included in future
versions.
If you have
any feedback or questions concerning this application please contact Mick Napier or Mark Leahy (Force CCTV
Department).

East
Midlands Joins North East Area
Wales and
Western’s East Midlands sector will
officially join the North East Area at one minute to midnight on 31
March.
The project
is now in its final stages after months of planning and a final briefing
will be issued to East Midlands staff and officers at Nottingham,
Derby and Leicester stations, to introduce them to the North
East Area.
East
Midlands will have
a new sector commander, Chief Inspector David Scott, who will report to
Superintendent Nicki Watson under North East Area Commander, Chief
Superintendent Terry Nicholson.
Force IT
systems including Origin HR, Command and Control, Administration of
Justice systems and Crime Recording Systems will be amended to reflect the
move, and fundamentals such as call signs amended as
necessary.
Project
manager, Chief Inspector Dave Oram, said: “The merger will be the result
of many months’ work and we are into the last stages of this now, so thank
you to everyone involved for their support and patience during this
process.
“Throughout
the project we have tried to minimise the disruption to the staff and
officers affected, and to the service we provide to the industry, and I
think we have achieved that.
“We are now
looking forward to the switchover date at the end of the month and will
keep all affected staff and officers informed about any supporting changes
as they happen.”
If you have
any questions regarding the move and how it will affect you or your
department, please contact CI Dave Oram on 07956 288 115 or the new East
Midlands Sector Commander CI David Scott on 07920 508 794.
