PRAISE FOR OFF DUTY
PC NOTICE:
CONSERVATIVE
CONFERENCE SEES CANCELLED REST DAYS Praise for off-duty
PC
Cheshire
Police has commended the actions of PC Ian Henderson who, while off duty,
assisted in the arrest of an offender in
Warrington.
Constable
Henderson, who was near to the Riverside Retail Park in Warrington on
Saturday, 16th May, noticed Cheshire officers pursuing an
offender. Having identified himself as a police officer PC Henderson
joined the pursuit and was able to detain the offender who was
subsequently arrested on suspicion of
assault.
Writing
to BTP, Chief Inspector Martin Cleworth of Cheshire Police said:
“Constable Henderson’s actions led to the prompt apprehension of the
offender and I would add that the officer did not know why the offender
was being pursued or whether the individual was
armed.
“On
behalf of Cheshire Police I would like to pass on our thanks for Constable
Henderson’s assistance in this
incident.”

minimise disruption to officers rosters it has been decided that all rest
days during the period 3rd – 8th October will be
cancelled. The
planning process will continually evaluate the number of officers required
and where applicable rest days will be reinstated and as much notice as
possible will be given. Mick Millward
– Star of the small screen
Preston-based
detective Mick Millward became a star of the small screen this week after
he appeared on the new BBC Crimewatch
Roadshow. The
programme, a spin off from the main Crimewatch show, is being broadcast
from around the country during the next few weeks, featuring crimes that
may otherwise not get airtime. DC Millward
appeared on Tuesday morning, live from Manchester Piccadilly, where he was
interviewed by North West Tonight’s Dave Guest about a man wanted for a
spate of theft of passenger property
offences. Vehicle out of
service – disable the radio
Al radios
in vehicles which have been taken out of service must be
disabled. All BTP’s
Airwave radios are provided under licence from the Home Office and it is a
licence condition that all radios in vehicles must be disabled when the
vehicle is out of service. Steve
Lumley, Airwave Tactical Advisor from the FHQ Communications Team, said:
“Airwave is a digital encrypted system, so it is very important that
access to the network is strictly regulated. “Whenever a
vehicle is taken out of service, either permanently for decommissioning or
temporarily for service, maintenance or repair, the radio must be
disabled. “This
applies to any vehicles taken out of service for any reason, where they
are out of BTP control. If you hand the keys to a third party,
ensure the radio is disabled.” Radios can
be disabled by contacting one of the Force Control
Rooms. Free wellbeing

from Mick
Detective
Constable Mick O’Brien braved the searing late May heat to take part in
the Edinburgh Marathon last weekend. Despite the
heat, and organisers running out of water between miles 15 – 22, Mick
managed to complete the course in four hours 21 minutes – and has raised
just short of £1,000 in the process. DC O’Brien
said: “The time was slower than I had hoped, but I was happy to get round
in one piece. “I’m
pleased with the money raised so far, but there is still time to break
that £1,000 limit and anyone who still wants to donate can log-on to my
website at www.justgiving.com/michaelob. An

The
Technology Department is working hard to resolve the virus suffered by the
computer systems during the past few weeks. However,
this work is being frustrated with remote tests showing that more than 10
per cent of the computer estate is not responding. This is most likely due
to desktops being switched off. All
officers and staff are reminded it is vital that computers are not
shutdown at the end of a shift. Officers in Charge are requested to ensure
that, until further notice, all computers in their respective police posts
are checked to ensure they are only logged
off. All
officers, staff or departments in possession of Force issued laptops are
reminded to contact the Technology
department. It is again
vitally important that all laptops are identified and cleansed of the
virus, even if they have not recently been connected to the network.
Any officer
or member of staff with a Force laptop or department that has a ‘pool’
laptop must email their name, contact telephone number and where they work
– along with the make model and serial number of the laptop to mobiledata.
