Resource Centre
emails
The
Resource Centre will only deal with enquiries and applications that are
sent by e-mail to the LS-ResourceCentre e-mail box. This is necessary so
that all requests are documented and auditable. As much as the staff in
the Resource Centre enjoy personal visits from officers and police staff,
they will not deal with any personal enquiries.
Also any
applications that are sent to individual members of the Resource Centre
will be placed in the LS-ResourceCentre e-mail box. The Sergeant in the
Resource Centre will then distribute these e-mails on a daily basis to
individual staff members based on their area of responsibility and the
deadline of the application.
Can e-mails
be headed as below so that those with a short application date are dealt
with first. The Resource Centre receive over a 100 e-mails a day and there
is a need to prioritise their workload.
Officers/Support
staff must TITLE all emails
in the subject field using the following format,
Subject: 1.
Your Post e.g.
Core/ASG/CID 2.Your Name
& No. 3. Reason e.g. Toil request/ AL query
Departmental
messages relating to administrative matters must be titled in the
following manner;
Subject: 1.
Your Department e.g.
Training/HR 2.Course Title
or subject 3. Officer/Staff Police Post

Universal CCTV
software launch
The Force
is launching a new CCTV viewing application called SiraView, that will be
available across all police Areas (initially on a limited number of
networked computers).
SiraView is
a universal CCTV player that will enable viewing of a variety of different
digital CCTV systems outputs, without other software having to be
installed. The application is aimed at front line officers
investigating CCTV images.
One of the
main advantages of the application is that it allows the user to use the
same front end piece of software regardless of which CCTV format they want
to view. This should enable officers to build up a familiarity with the
application as they are seeing the same software each time rather than
having to become familiar with the many different CCTV players.
The
software will be supported by the ‘Technology Service Desk’ who will also
hold a list of locations where SiraView has been deployed. To find out
where your nearest terminal is or to make a technical support enquiry
contact the Service Desk.
Before
using the software it is advised that you complete the short training
package for SiraView which can be found on the Force intranet Crime
Reduction Department’s CCTV web page. See link
below.
http://a00-cms/btpintranet/Default.aspx?page=8568
There are
many CCTV formats that SiraView cannot play, but as these formats are
identified they can be built in to the next release of the software.
Therefore, anyone coming across a format that won’t play should let the
Service Desk know so that it can be included in future
versions.
If you have
any feedback or questions concerning this application please contact Mick Napier or Mark Leahy (Force CCTV
Department).

Case files to
Evidence Review Officer
DCI Gareth
Williams has asked all officers handling investigations to note the
following:
“I am very
much aware of all the hard work that Officers on this Area put into their
investigations and subsequent case file preparation. London South has the
best record of all three of the London Areas in relation to this and I am
very keen that this position is maintained.
“To this
end, there was an instruction issued by me that all case files relating to
persons on bail must be submitted through the London South Evidential
Review Officer (ERO). This affected only those Officers on NPT, ASG, Core
Teams and PCSO Co-ordinators. Whilst the majority of Officers are
complying with this instruction, I am aware that one or two are not and
this is causing us potential problems at Court. I wish to avoid us
reaching the point where all of your hard work is being undone because the
quality of the case files submitted are found wanting at Court.
“Would
those few Officers that are not already conforming please be aware that if
you have a suspect on bail for whatever reason, you must present your case
papers to DC Steve Millward before your suspect returns for his or her
bail appointment. This will ensure that the correct disposal decision is
reached and that the subsequent file reaches the high standard that the
Courts require.
“DC
Millward will then ensure that an ERO guidance sheet is provided for you
to present to the Custody Sgt.
To this
end, will all Custody Sgt’s please ensure that the ERO sheet is presented
to you with disposal authority in the appropriate cases.”

Western’s East Midlands sector will
officially join the North East Area at one minute to midnight on 31
March.
The project
is now in its final stages after months of planning and a final briefing
will be issued to East Midlands staff and officers at Nottingham,

a new sector commander, Chief Inspector David Scott, who will report to
Superintendent Nicki Watson under North East Area Commander, Chief
Superintendent Terry Nicholson.
Force IT
systems including Origin HR, Command and Control, Administration of
Justice systems and Crime Recording Systems will be amended to reflect the
move, and fundamentals such as call signs amended as
necessary.

manager, Chief Inspector Dave Oram, said: “The merger will be the result
of many months’ work and we are into the last stages of this now, so thank
you to everyone involved for their support and patience during this
process.
“Throughout
the project we have tried to minimise the disruption to the staff and
officers affected, and to the service we provide to the industry, and I
think we have achieved that.
“We are now
looking forward to the switchover date at the end of the month and will
keep all affected staff and officers informed about any supporting changes
as they happen.”
If you have
any questions regarding the move and how it will affect you or your

Important
message for basic driver (Category 1) permit
holders
In
accordance with the Driver Standards SOP the London South Area is required
to transfer all Driver folders to the new style files. The area is also
required to re-assess all existing Basic Authority holders before June
2009. This does not apply to officers currently holding Standard (V&A)
permits or those who have undertaken an assessment since July 2008.
All basic
permit holders will shortly be contacted by an accredited assessor in
order for a convenient appointment to be arranged. It is anticipated that
each appraisal will take no more than one hour and will consist of the
following elements;
·
Completion
of Driver file (Part 1) by applicant and copies of DVLA Licence
taken
·
Eyesight
Test (as per the DVLA Driving Test – Standard vehicle number plate from 20
metres)
·
Practical
Driving competencies check
Officers
and Staff are requested to make every effort to assist the assessors by
firstly identifying available dates and times and secondly by keeping
appointments.
Please be
aware that this assessment is mandatory and any member of staff who has
not completed the appraisal by June will automatically lose the authority
to drive force vehicles.
