Cannabis warning – further information

All officers are reminded that the smoking of cannabis is an aggravating factor and a cannabis warning should not be issued, this has been identified as still occurring during audits.

In addition, the cautioning of offenders for any offence can only be carried out if the offender admits the alleged offence and no inducement is offered to the offender i.e. they will be released after signing a caution.

New caution forms were issued in 2008 yet there is evidence that old caution forms are being used.  Please dispose of the old forms.

A link to the simple caution policy along with the forms to be used can be found below:

TOIL time sheets

From the 22nd February 2009 no copy timesheets need to be sent to the Resource Centre for adding TOIL, as this will now be done through Finance.

The TOIL added form will be removed from the intranet. Applications to take TOIL, leave and rest days/Bank Holidays in Lieu will still need to be applied for in the normal manner though the London South intranet page and Resource Centre.

If you have a query regarding your existing TOIL balances now is the time to get it sorted as the Resource Centre staff will only take requests to amend TOIL balances after the 22nd February if authorised by TPS Fowler or Inspector Chestney

NPT stop and search uncovers firearm

The importance of vigilance by all officers was highlighted last week after an excellent stop by Lewisham NPT officers uncovered a firearm.

NPT officers were patrolling Abbey Wood station on February 7, when they spoke to a male who did not have a ticket.

Officers conducted a PNC check on the male and he was wanted on warrant for a serious assault.

He was arrested by PC Scutts and after being searched, offices uncovered a loaded pistol in the male’s bag.

He was further arrested and Trojan units were deployed. The Greenwich man was charged with having a loaded firearm in a public place and has been remanded in custody.

London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics project team

BTP has a project team in place to co-ordinate planning for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics in London and to ensure that as a Force we are in a position to deliver a safe and secure railway during these events.

Planning a multi-agency approach years in advance is necessary because of the magnitude of the Games, and the complexity of the governance structure and organisations involved.

If officers or staff receive enquiries on Olympic-related matters or invitations to attend meetings relating to the Olympics, they should first make contact with the Olympic Project office. This will ensure they are fully briefed before attending and/or ensure appropriate representation at meetings.  This is also to ensure BTP delivers consistent messages in relation to specific enquires and avoid duplication of effort.

If you have any queries in relation to the BTP London and Olympics Project, the team can be contacted on 020 7830 8941 (00 48941), or email enquiries to Olympic Project Manager Odette Butson. A  London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games section has also been set up on the Intranet (click here).

A note of thanks

Dear all,

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all my friends and colleagues on this area. The support in the form of messages, calls and visits following my surgery has been overwhelming and really means a great deal to me as well as my family. As some of you know this has been a particularly difficult year for us regarding my health and I would like to thank all those who supported me through a lot of difficult months. The support I received undoubtedly kept me positive and aided my recovery and will not be forgotten. I am pleased to say that I am back at work with my new team at Bromley and look forward to a healthy 2009. Once again thank you very much.
