Estranged husband given restraining order

A man who harassed his ex-wife on the Tube has been given a restraining order and a two-year supervision order.

Khuram Sheikh (41), of Bensham Manor Road, Thornton Heath, was handed his sentence at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday 5 June.

PC Kevin Street, based in the Workplace Violence and Community Safety Unit at Aldgate, said:

“Sheikh approached his wife, from whom he has been separated for two years, at her work on Thursday 16 April before marching her to Uxbridge Tube station and making her board a Metropolitan line train.

“Whilst on the train, Sheik repeatedly threatened her and also took her phone. The pair got off the train at Harrow-on-the-Hill, where she made her way to the supervisor’s office and reported the offence.

“Later that day, Sheikh was spotted hanging around outside his ex-wife’s parents’ house and was subsequently arrested for harassment.”

Sheikh received his restraining order after it was found he had breached his bail conditions.

60 days’ jail for Tube spitter

A man who spat at a Tube worker at Colindale station has been jailed after British Transport Police (BTP) investigators tracked him down through his DNA.

Appearing at Hendon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 27 May, Colin Sheppard (35), of Ferme Park Road, Stroud Green, was jailed for 60 days.

PC Andy Burns, of BTP’s Workplace Violence and Community Safety Unit, said:

“Sheppard and another man followed a family through the manual ticket gate into the station around 9.30pm on Saturday 17 January but ignored a member of staff who asked him to show his ticket.

“After being repeatedly asked to leave because he didn’t have a ticket, Sheppard swore at the member of staff and spat towards him as he left the station gate, with the spit landing on the floor.”

Sheppard continued to shout abuse at the member of staff from across the road before walking off with his colleague.

The member of staff used a DNA spit kit to wipe the spit from the floor and retained it as evidence for the investigating officers, who sent the sample away for forensic analysis.

The DNA database matched the spit to Sheppard and his details were circulated as a person who was wanted for questioning.

Sheppard was later arrested for an unrelated incident in April and was later charged with common assault for the offence at Colindale.
