Dear Colleagues
Briefing events on the Government's
Refreshed Counter Terrorism Strategy,
'Contest'
It has
just come to our attention that not all police authorities
received invitations to a recent series of important Home
Office regional events about the Government's refreshed Counter
Terrorism (CT) strategy, 'Contest'. These very well-received events for
interested agencies, authorities and '3rd sector' groups include presentations,
Q&A sessions with Ministers and senior civil servants
and represent a useful opportunity to further local partnerships
around CT.
Following
our representations, the Home Office have therefore agreed that
delegates from ANY police authority may attend the last scheduled
Contest event.
This is
in CARDIFF, THIS COMING MONDAY, June 15th.
For
further details, and to book into this event, please use the letter, below. The
Cardiff venue holds up to 200, with many places still available, but
priority will be given to delegates from authorities who have not yet been
represented at a CONTEST event.
I'm sorry
that this is ridiculously short notice. However,
If someone from your authority wishes to attend a CONTEST briefing but
cannot get to Cardiff on Monday please let me know. Following
negotiation, the Home Office has agreed to put on an extra CONTEST
event if police authorities
require it.
We very
much hope that your authority will be able to benefit from this valuable
opportunity.
Kind
regards,
Nathan

LAUNCH OF CONTEST 2: The UK Government's
strategy
for countering international terrorism
The Wales Event,
Monday 15th June 2009
Dear
Colleague,
We would like to
personally invite to you to an important one-day event aimed at senior strategic
leaders, to present the revised UK counter terrorism strategy: CONTEST. The
event will be hosted by the Home Office and supported by the Welsh Assembly
Government.
We are pleased to
announce Lord West, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Security and
Counter Terrorism, and Dr Brian Gibbons, Welsh Minister for Social Justice and
Local Government, as our speakers.
CONTEST has been
revised to build on our experience and the lessons we've learnt tackling
international terrorism since the strategy was first established in 2003. The
new edition of CONTEST also takes into account the greater resources and the
wider range of people working to address the terrorist threat to ensure we are
all working together to deal with the new challenges presented by international
terrorists. It is the first time we have set out our strategy so comprehensively
for stakeholders and the general public.
This event will
allow you to hear about the significant developments in this area since the
Wales CONTEST Conference was held in January. It will also provide the
opportunity to discuss the Crowded Places Consultation which looks at developing
a new national framework across England and Wales that builds upon the excellent
partnership working that already
exists.
The CONTEST and Crowded Places
Consultation event will be held on Monday 15th June, at 10:00 for a 10:30 start.
The venue is the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff.
Please note that places are limited and
will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. We very much hope you
will be able to attend this exciting event. If you are unable to attend, please
pass this invitation on to your most appropriate senior deputy. Please also
notify the organisers, using this
