The Members of the British Transport Police Authority attend the eight annual meetings of the Full Authority. They are also divided into smaller committees and working groups to conduct more specific tasks.
There are fifteen places for membership of BTPA, including a chairman and a deputy chairman, appointed by the Secretary of State for Transport. At present the membership totals eleven. Members are required to have knowledge of a range of views from the rail industry and rail passengers. Vacancies are publicly advertised by the Department for Transport and filled when required.
