Our role?

The Police Authority employs a small team of 11 staff who provide support to the Authority’s Members. Authority Members are recruited and appointed by the Department for Transport.

The Authority also appoints, and where necessary dismisses the Strategic Command Team at the British Transport Police; this team includes the following posts;

  • Chief Constable
  • Deputy Chief Constable
  • Assistant Chief Constable B Division and Operations
  • Assistant Chief Constable C Division and Crime
  • Assistant Chief Constable D Division
  • Director of Capability and Resources

By law BTPA is the employer of all British Transport Police’s officers and staff. Information about BTP’s current work force can be found by visiting the police force’s diversity pages.
