Our role?

The Police Authority employs a small team of 10 staff who provide support to the Authority’s Members. Authority Members are recruited and appointed by the Department for Transport.

The Authority also appoints, and where necessary dismisses the Strategic Command Team at the British Transport Police; this team includes the following posts;

  • Chief Constable
  • Deputy Chief Constable
  • Assistant Chief Constable Territorial Policing and Crime
  • Assistant Chief Constable Operations
  • Assistant Chief Constable Scotland
  • Director of Corporate Resources

By law BTPA is also the employer of all British Transport Police’s police staff. Information about BTP’s current work force can be found by visiting the police force’s diversity pages.
